The Liverpool Arms is one of the best known pubs on the Isle of Man. Standing mid way between Onchan and Laxey, this former coaching house is the original Half Way House and the road it stands on is universally referred to as 'The L.A. Straight'.
Operated by Nigel and Marilyn Dobson, 'The L.A.' as it is known throughout the Island, also tries to provide the standards set by generations of publicans before them. Nigel takes great pride in the quality of his Real Ales and Marilyn insists that the menu is made up of Real Food!
But a visit to the L.A. isn't just about the food.
"First and foremost we are a pub" said Nigel. "Eating in a pub is not the same as going to a restaurant because it's a pub. We are less formal than other eateries because of our unique atmosphere. You can only create that if you really are a public house. We still provide a pool table, dart board and football on Saturdays! We take as much care of our beer as we do our food. If I wanted to run a restaurant, I would. In fact I do at Niarbyl! What makes The Liverpool Arms special is that we remember where we come from. For all the investment in new ideas and modern food we still also supply a quality pie and a decent pint"
The L.A. might be the epitome of the traditional country pub, but if you look closely you will see that this cosy and welcoming environment also embraces the 21st century.
With large screen plasma televisions discretely incorporated into the dècor, the L.A. is the perfect place to enjoy the big match over a pint. Or, if you need to keep in touch with the office during lunch, then why not take advantage of the pubs WiFi connection, allowing laptop users to wirelessly connect to ADSL broadband free of charge. There is also free use of an internet computer which might just keep the kids busy while you have a meal!

When you read the menu you can be sure that when Steak and Kidney Pudding is offered, it is made in a Pyrex bowl in our kitchens, that the Cod is the freshest available and the secret of our batter is flour, water, salt. Nothing else. The burgers are home made, and the curries, well; the aroma in the kitchens when they are being prepared is something else...
